As part of the APT Peer Conversation Project, Michelle Langille meets with Kat McCormack (Artistic Director, Eastern Front Theatre) in studio, to capture a podcast recording of their conversation about accessibility in theatrical contexts.
Michelle Langille is an actor/director born in Antigonish, NS who is immensely grateful to call Nova Scotia home again after a decade in Toronto. Michelle studied Musical Theatre at the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria and then Classical Theatre at George Brown College in Toronto. As a director Michelle was member of Neptune Theatre’s Chrysalis project as a director and worked on The Last Wife and Peter Pan. She was slated to appear in Rocky Horror as Magenta pre-pandemic. She assisted on the world premiere of Lo (or Dear Mr. Wells) a Nightwood Theatre production at Crows Theatre which had it’s regional premiere at Neptune in 2019. She directed The Penelopiad at Hart House Theatre which garnered a number of Subscriber Choice awards including awards for lighting, set, overall design, favourite supporting actor and favourite director. She was a member of Nightwood Theatre’s Write from the Hip Playwright’s unit (2016/2017) with her play Ten Days and spent a year as part of Generator’s Artist Producer Training Program. As performer Michelle most recently appeared as Magenta in Neptune Theatre’s Rocky Horror Show. Kat McCormack (she/they) is a theatre artist from Dartmouth/Punamu’kwati’jk with a passion for playful, devised work and collective creations. Since completing the Acting Programme at Dalhousie University in 2007, Kat has helped to create over fifteen new works with companies such as Zuppa Theatre, Shakespeare by the Sea, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, The Villains Theatre, and others. Kat has been named "Best Theatre Actor" in The Coast's Best of Halifax issue five times, and is a four-time nominee for the Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Direction. As the Artistic Director of Eastern Front Theatre, Kat aims to create a supportive and accessible environment for artists to push the boundaries of Atlantic Canadian storytelling, as well as their own artistic practice.
